Soft Colors of Christmas

Variation

Tutorial by RoniElaine - 11/6/2008

Skill Level - Intermediate

This tutorial was written using PSP X but should work

in other versions with just a few adjustments.

It was written in "split screen" format so that

you can work on the tutorial with PSP open on one

side of your screen and the tutorial on the other side.

Supplies Needed ...  HERE

No outside filters are required in this tutorial

You may wish to use FM Tile Tools - Blend Emboss

for one step but it is not required

All supplies needed will be provided for you.

I encourage you to use tubes of your choice

and make this your own "original" creation.

Making the Header

 1. File > New

     Settings:

     600x400, transparent

Use Dropper Tool to choose 2 "soft" colors.

Your choice will depend on the tubes you are using.

        I used #c8a386 foreground and #edded3 background,

which are 2 shades of the same color.

In Material Palette set as a gradient

     Settings:

     Foreground/background, Linear

     Angle and Repeats - 0

     Invert checked

Use Flood Fill tool to fill with the gradient

2.  File > Open - open the PIT_jewels232 tube

Shift+D  to duplicate and close the original

In Layer Palette, choose Raster 9

Edit > Copy (you can minimize jewels for now)

Edit > Paste as New Image

     Image > Resize

     Settings:

     W 600 x H 400 pixels, Bicubic

     Lock aspect ratio not checked

     Resize all layers checked

Edit > Copy   (you can close this now)

Edit > Paste as New Layer onto your main image

In Layer Palette, choose a Blend Mode

        I chose Soft Light.

Luminance and Luminance Legacy also work well.

3.  Activate the PIT_jewels232 tube again

In Layer Palette, choose Raster 4

Edit > Copy (you can now close the tube)

Edit > Paste as New Image

     Image > Resize

     Settings:

     W 75 x H 45 pixels

     Lock aspect ratio unchecked

     Resize all layers checked

Edit > Copy  (you can close this now)

Edit > Paste as New Layer onto your main image

Use your Move Tool to move it into the rectangle at

the upper right.  See example for placement.

     Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen

4.  Layers > Duplicate

Use your Mover Tool to move the duplicate layer down

to the rectangle at the lower right.

In Layer Palette set the Blend Mode to Dissolve and

     lower Opactiy to between 40-60

(You will be placing another tube over it)

5.  File > Open

        jcc-White Pointsiettas-11-05_2
